चंद्रमा के पथ में पड़ने वाले तारों का समूह जो सौर जगत् के भीतर नहीं है। इनकी कुल संख्या 27 है। पुराणों में इन्हें दक्ष प्रजापति की पुत्रियाँ बताया गया है जो सभी सोम अर्थात् चंद्रमा को ब्याही गयीं थी। इनमें से चंद्रमा को रोहिणी सबसे प्रिय थी जिसके कारण चंद्रमा को शापग्रस्त भी होना पड़ा था। नक्षत्रों का महत्त्व वैदिक काल से ही रहा है।
